What are your favourite synths on this site? Any good ones with Frnehc? ESpeak is wretched with French!

for sapi 5, the major synthesisers all support french.

Okay, so when I installed this on my laptop a hundred years ago, under SAPI 4 there was a supported ETI option and so I can make NVDA sound like JAWS. Well, my grandmother's JAWS took a crap, so I'm getting NVDA all set up on her computer. Problem? Speech Hub doesn't give me an option to use ETI Eloquence, no matter which synthesizer I look under. Have they changed this recently? Sorry if this makes absolutely no sense lol. Am about to throw this freaking computer across the room.

P.S.: Difference between my computer and hers: Mine has Vista, hers has XP. Could this be it? Is the ETI synth unsupported in XP with regard to this particular program?

P.S.S.: Sorry for the spam. Looking at my laptop and the SAPI 4 option has been entirely misnamed. Every single voice variation under it is Eloquence.

Also also, on my laptop, if I use the SpeechHub Cross Platform thingie as my synth, I see MaryTTS as a voice option but not on my grandmother's XP computer. There is an option that sounds similar but is under a different name. So the conclusions I am coming to are: Either I need to reinstall SpeecHub or XP doesn't alow for as much variation. What are your thoughts?

I think you have a program that is on your computer that has installed the sapi4 Eloquence. And also, why not use eSpeak on her computer? If she can't understand it, get the Microsoft speech platform or a free sapi5 synth. Technically, using Eloquence with NVDA is illegal, even if it is with sapi4. Besides, Eloquence hasn't ben updated since the 90's, so it is out-of-date. It can't even say Anime correctly. :)

That's so odd!! Illegal? I don't have anything on my computer besides Window-Eyes and Kurzweil that have ETI capability. I use NVDA as a backup or for things like Blackboard. And the Window-Eyes I had at the time which I installed Speech Hub was an old version that did not have ETI capabilities. I had no idea it wasn't supposed to do that. She and I both abhor eSpeak. Lol so I'll just keep hunting, I guess.

tiler spivy made an ETI eloquence driver that is based on the version included in jaws. as for marry tts, I think it has something to do with the java runtime envirenment.

Ah, interesting. Although my grandmother does have JAVA on her comp, I'm almost a hundred percent certain. So whydo you think she might not have the ETI or the TTS? Should I uninstall and reinstall just to see if anything changes?

Post 14 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 19-Jul-2012 13:03:48

she didn't have ETI eloquence in the first place. you were the one who put eloquence on your own computer. there's also a real speak driver made also by tiler, but it uses the "direct" voices, which are provided free of charge from freedomscientific.

I'm still super confused because I never have installed Eloquence onto my computer until I installed the new Window-Eyes, which comes with it. And that came later. Oh ewll, nonetheless, I may look into the RealSpeak driver. I have heard it before and it is incredible, if it's what I'm thinking of anyway.
NV Access also has a very helpful article entailing other extra voices which you can look into. I thought I'd share it here for anyone who's interested.

I think someone else installed eloquence before you got the computer. Maybe it came preinstalled.

Post 17 by hopeburnsblue (http://hopeburnsblue.deviantart.com) on Friday, 20-Jul-2012 20:55:47

Just so odd. If that were the case, wouldn't I have been able to use it with Window-Eyes or NVDA before? Have had this machine for four years now haha. *Shrug* who knows?

Post 18 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 24-Jul-2012 9:23:15

if that was the case, you're probably right.
